Foster Care Bill of Rights
On June 22, 2017 Governor Eric Greitens signed the Foster Care Bill of Rights at The Central Missouri Foster Care & Adoption Association in Jefferson City.
At the signing, Governor Greitens said, “Our state has 13,000 children in the foster care system. They are, both in law and spirit, Missouri’s children. Our kids. We recognize the potential of kids in foster care. We honor hard-working foster parents. And we’ve got a lot of work to do in Missouri to fight for, work with, and build a better system for our foster families.”
An overview of the bill:
• Requires that all kids be educated on their rights when entering state custody
• Requires that all foster and adoptive resource centers post the bill of rights.
• Gives the kids rights to stability in placement, attendance at court, communication and visitation with family and more involvement in their case plan.
