Central Missouri Foster Care and Adoption Association has a Youth Speak Out (YSO) team for older foster and adoptive youth. The YSO is a group of older youth who want to advocate for change within the system and share their story. The YSO program was developed through training and assistance from the North American Council on Adoptable Children. www.nacac.org. The youth are recruited from the Transitions Program and from other programs that CMFCAA offers. The youth are ages 18 and up and have experienced both foster and adoptive care. The YSO team travels to advocate on behalf of systematic change for the foster care system and adoption to legislators, state departments, local civic groups, non-profits and speaks on conference panels.
